A woman who used tricks to steal money and other valuables all totalling to Sh 1.1 million from an expatriate residing in Spring Valley, Westlands has been charged in court. The accused person, Rita Akinyi Yohana was charged before Milimani Chief Magistrate Lukas Onyina where he denied the charges.
According to the chargesheet, the accused person stole; USD 4,000, 100 Indian Riyals, 30,000 Indian Rupees, Sh 31,350, jewelry, electronic devices, and important documents belonging to Kapoor Mohit all totalling to Sh 1.1milliom.
The court heard that she committed the offense on March 11, 2025, at Spring Valley Estate in Nairobi County.
The court heard that the accused person’s stolen items also included a grey handbag, two silver Laxmi Ganesh statues, three gold coins, multiple bank cards, a Standard Chartered bank checkbook, an Espirit wristwatch, a black suitcase, and a safe deposit box.

According to the police covering report, three days after the alleged theft, Yohana was found in possession of some of the stolen goods at Kawangware Estate, Dagoretti. She now faces an additional charge of handling stolen property, contrary to Section 322 of the Penal Code.
The police report says that among the recovered items were a grey handbag, multiple purses, perfume, a broken safe deposit box, and various currencies, including Kenyan shillings, US dollars, and Indian Rupees.
She pleaded for lenient bond terms and she was released on a bond of Sh 400,000 with an alternative cash bail of Sh 200,000.
The case will proceed on May 31
