Wajir Chief Abdullahi Abdi Sheikh and Huduma Centre official Veronica Njenga
A chief from Wajir County was arraigned before a Nairobi court for allegedly being found in possession of an identity card with altered details. Wajir Chief Abdullahi Abdi Sheikh appeared in court alongside Veronica Njenga, a senior clerical officer at Huduma Centre, Nairobi City Square.
It was alleged that he knowingly changed his year of birth from 1997 to 1987 and provided false information during registration on October 13, 2022, by applying for and obtaining a birth entry number, despite having already been issued a birth certificate on July 25, 1997.
Njenga was charged with unlawfully altering details on the identity card. The charges were filed under Section 14(i) d(ii) of the Registration of Persons Act.
Njenga also faced additional charges under Sections 46 and 48 of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act No. 3 of 2003 for abuse of office. According to the prosecution, she used her position in October 2022 to unlawfully alter Sheikh’s year of birth on his national identity card.
They denied the charges before Presiding Magistrate Isabella Barasa and were released on Sh 1.5 million or an alternative cash bail of Sh 300,000.
She also ordered both accused persons to surrender their passports to the court
