Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has directed the Department of Health and the County Public Service Board to urgently advertise 500 nursing positions in a bid to cushion residents from the effects of the ongoing nurses’ strike.
The industrial action, fueled by grievances over delayed pay, union deductions, and stalled negotiations, has left health services strained across the county. Governor Ndeti said the recruitment drive is aimed at restoring normalcy in hospitals and safeguarding access to essential healthcare.
She further appealed to striking nurses and union officials to return to the negotiating table, assuring them of the county government’s commitment to addressing their concerns.
